On the England message board the other day somebody posted a warning for the Boro fans that the Ultras were planning an attack on them.

Roma basicly Italy's craziest football fans. If it was Town playing, I wouldn't have gone. Not worth the risk IMO.

But no one start that "ban them from Europe" bollocks though. It's not on a match day, it's not at the stadium so it's nothing to do with AS Roma the club, so shut it anyone who wants to say that.

Well I bloody said it and I mean it, as for saying it has nothing to do with the club, who has it to do with then????????

Italy and Turkey get away with it because of people like you, every year it's the bloody same story.

Obviously you cannot do anything to the club as it wasnt in the vicinity in the stadium, however i hope they do find these hooligans and incarcerate them by the boll*cks.

Well if you go over there tonight, you can do it yourself.

Surely Roma had to play behind closed doors last season cause that ref got nailed by a coin.

Boro are 1-0 up, Roma now need 3 goals.

Edit: make that 1-1

Shame the gutter press didn't take the same attitude at Euro 2004 when they were trying to blame the trouble in Albufeira on England fans attending the tournament.

Good to see Boro go through, my mates a boro fan and i rib him for it but they are a decent European side now.

I just think any nutter that goes around with a balaclava, an axe and a mob of knife wielding psychos, walks into a bar and attacks a father with an 11year old son by his side just because of the shirt he is wearing and the team he is following, deserves to be locked up with the key thrown away. To do this over a football match, and one that hasnt even been played yet is crazy.

Sometimes I seriously question what the heck you are on about Monstermunch LOL!!!

Of course it wasn't in the vicinity of the football club - however this is purely related to football. If they weren't wearing football shirts and from middlesborough this would not have happened!!!

The so called "civilized" world of europe is no better than the middle east at times and it seems governments representing those people couldn't be farther removed from the reality of the situation!

At the end of the day, it is the responsibility of the football club to keep their supporters in order. You could say exactly the same thing about Heysel... it was only the supporters and therefore had nothing to do with the club. However, all English teams were banned. This wasn't to punish the teams themselves, this was done to punish the supporters. The same would be the case if Roma were banned. It would not be to punish the club, but to punish the supporters.

Yeah but they banned all clubs from playing in europe, that IS punnishing the clubs, and that's why many are pissed off, one rule for us and another for every one else.

Edit: Sorry I did not read your post properly

Heysel was totally different. It was actually at the stadium. Clubs have an obligation to control their fans when they're at the ground. Inter were rightly banned from their stadium for the flare throwing, similairly Roma for the coin chucked at the ref. The clubs have a responsibility and get punished if they don't fulfil that.

But suggesting AS Roma should be banned from Europe because of the actions of 100 nutters the day before the match is ludicrous. If it had been near the ground on the matchday I'd agree with you. Inside the ground I'd agree with you. But banning a club because of what their fans get up to on non matchdays is unfair and stupid. How exactly are Roma supposed to stop their fans from attacking others away from the stadium, the day before the game? They can't.

Who did Harold Shipman support? Shall we ban them from the league?

By all means lock them up, i'm not condoning what they did but don't bring the clubs into it when they have nothing to do with it.

Sorry Munch but you're missing the point by about as much as Beckham missed THAT penalty in Turkey.
All football related violence needs to be punished and also, that punishment needs to be a deterrent. If we're just punishing the 10/20 fans who took part in one incident, what's to stop some other thugs doing the same thing next time.
When you punish anyone for football related violence, you need to exact a punishment that will affect all the fans of that team/country and p*ss them all off. The effect of this is to deter people from doing the same thing as well as encouraging non-violent fans as well as the club to crack down on violence.

Plenty of ultras have got connections with both clubs and police. If these connections could be proved, would you change your mind? (Some of the reports from Rome suggest the police were quite happy to let things take their course)

No, because it's unfair to punish a club for the actions of their fans when the club have no direct control over them. It's the work of the italian police to get convictions and have these lads locked up.

I've heard that the Boro fans were charged by Roma fans inside the stadium and that bottles were thrown at the players. In my view, AS Roma should face some sort of punishment for that. But not their fans being nutters in the streets the day before.

Why not? England are constantly being threatened with being removed from the major tournaments if there's trouble with fans. Why should it be any different for Roma??

What? If there's trouble in or around a stadium on matchdays? As I've said a trillion times before it's totally different.

It's similair to equating the trouble that happened on the algarve during Euro 2004 with England and England fans and banning us for that.

I think a lot of you would have a totally different opinion if it was England/Ipswich fans in a town centre somewhere beating people up.
