"We're dirty northern Bas##rds!!!..."
Chance would be a fine thing!!
So the reports would suggest that we were none too happy with the result yesterday or the way we played! Well let me assure you now from a perspective of a supporter who has endured watching the whole season,No change!! We have been playing just like this for the majority of the season.
The good work from young Jamie Peters on the wide right was a breath of fresh air.The outstanding saves by the ever improving Shane Supple kept us more in it and the welcome return of Sam Parkin be it for only 20 mins or so was encouraging.
A round trip in the Taxi of just over 500 miles, setting off at 05.15am and getting home at 22.20 certainly tested the driving!!! I would do it all over again for the simple reason of being part of some of the greatest, dedicated supporters I am pleased to be associated with.
The match itself was nothing out of the ordinary. The returning form of Nicky Forster being a natural goal poacher stunned the pilgrims. We should of built upon the lead, instead we were panicing at the back and reverted to "Hoofball" out of defence through the poor distribution of De-vos and Mceverly, the latter yet again reverting to his usual poor display. A fully confident Mceverly is an outstanding player who commands his position as does indeed Matt Richards,But when his confidence is low,By heck he is bloody awful!
Skard ,it has been noted, has been singled out as a poor player who offered little in this game. Indeed i accept that he offered little, for Skard is a passing game type of player who wants to play a simple game of football and pass a simple ball to another player wearing the same coloured shirt. As several supporters commented on yesterday.."It's not rocket science is it?". The look of dispair and fustration in Skards face and eyes says it all as the ball is "Hoofed" way over his head straight back to the opposition creating another attack. Until this squad of players realise that passing it to feet and building from the back to create a chance is the only successful way to play this game,Then we are stuck in this division for many seasons to come.
It was nice to meet you at last "Rivera",I'm pleased that my mode of transport met with your approval, I am now very much looking forward to taking the posse and Taxi to Fortuna FC in Germany next bank holliday.
A big thank-you to all the supporters that have been forced to share the terraces both home and away with me this season, may we continue to do it all over again next season!
Win,Loose or Draw people, this is IPSWICH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB where there is never a dull moment!!! enjoy the world cup!

Do you think the manager realises this as well? I certainly have my doubts.
Anyhow, as I posted yesterday all credit to you fans who made the long journey down to the west country yesterday. If only some of the players showed the same sort of pride and commitment in the club then I'm still convinced we could have finished higher this season.

Good report Ln P...and just for Luke I'll copy your comments regarding a certain LB - who I happen to think is complete crap more times than he is a "good player" ! (give me Barron - anyday) !

Luke ..Ive seen them both play home and away ...and my gut feeling is that Barron is the better player of the two...Ive seen McE thrash the ball away on too many occassions to name and looking a liability in the Ricahrds mould at LB Im afraid !Luke wrote:Hallam how many games have you seen Barron play in ? I fully appreciate that Barron is no where near the finished article - but he looks far more comfortable on the ball and trys to play the ball out of defence.
We have one hoofer in the defence(De Vos) ...we dont need another !
I think this is where our differnce of opinion lies...hallamblue wrote:Luke ..Ive seen them both play home and away ...and my gut feeling is that Barron is the better player of the two...Ive seen McE thrash the ball away on too many occassions to name and looking a liability in the Ricahrds mould at LB Im afraid !Luke wrote:Hallam how many games have you seen Barron play in ? I feel a defence should be a no nonsense unit, Not a bunch of players who fancy themselves as Ronaldiniho but can get the odd good tackle in!
DeVos is solid as a rock and takes no prisinors, When McEverly is confident and fit and playing his best its the same with him, Id rather 4 jason devos then 4 Wilnis/barrons trying to dribble there way out of defence in there camakarzi style! It just results in more pressure on our backline again 9 times out of 10
A back line of
McEverly DeVos Shittu Casement
for next season would be fantastic! Look at Reading and Sheff utds backlines and even 3rd placed Watford!
All of there defenders are "hoofers" as you put it, I remeber watching people jeer and taunt Ibrahima Sonko when he came to portman road this season beacuse everytime the ball was near him he would whack it out of play! Nobody else saw what i did obviously that he was eliminating ANY DANGER. these are the sort of players we NEED if we want to suceed

I too have to agree with hallam luke! The phyisical strength that mceverly has is his greatest weapon, On his day i'm sure he is a very competent player in that position,I have only witnessed his good games twice, his distribution is poor and that is putting it mildly. This club will only move forward when attractive, passing, progressive football is reinventing itself through the whole squad. This involves defensive players bringing the ball out of defence in a controlled manor and exicuting the pass to feet, which i hasten to add,Scot Barron has always done. If and when Scot Barron gains Mceverly's strength on the ball,we will have a full back capable of international stardom. The likes of Mceverly,De-vos and Naylor have to simply learn that "Hoofball" to no one is never going to win games or indeed the respect of its supporters.

..and I cannot see the sense in defenders that hoof the ball away regardless of where it may end up (it invariably goes to the opposition- and hence staright back into our box = goal !)
I'd much rather have a well directed accurate long ball to one of our midfielders - rather than it sailing over their heads!
But as you say Luke - we will agree to differ on this point !

Im sorry mate but if you think Barron will be capable of playing for England you are deluded!loudnproud wrote:I too have to agree with hallam luke! There is no player like Wilnis who decides he is going to throw out the rubber legs on the opposing winger and potentialy put us under more pressure!

In theory i agree with you Hallam, But im afraid John Terry and Rio Ferdinand prefer to play there football in the premiership!hallamblue wrote:..and I cannot see the sense in defenders that hoof the ball away regardless of where it may end up (it invariably goes to the opposition- and hence staright back into our box = goal !)

That's the point Luke and your chosen premier players are a perfect example of it. Both of these players you have singled out are assertive and strong on the ball,They are players who pass to feet and are comfortable on the ball. As you rightly say, only casement shows any comfort on the ball defensively. Lets face it,Devos is in the team as a means to get a header in,with his feet it "choks away!! Hooooffff!" Casement excluded, the whole of the back four needs addresing and that i agree with you both on.

Well if the defenders are not comforable on the ball then it should be the job of the midfielders to get themselves into the game by dropping short to collect the ball.
Magic used to do this well and could spray the ball about. If Skard was so frustrated then he should be looking to get himself into the game.
Playing football is not rocket science. Keep it simple stupid

I think your all confused ......are you trying to say we have defenders of real quailty at PR ? or is it Ja Royle not thinking its important to have defenders that can pass. I can remember whenn I used to play(never at a high level
) anty team we met that had defenders that wanted tom pass to the midfield or each other ment that we were playing a team with confidence and ability. We seem to hoof and let goals in galore.

if they are not comfortable with the ball which happens to be the main tool in their profession why are they playing at all.nammatt wrote:Well if the defenders are not comforable on the ball then it should be the job of the midfielders to get themselves into the game by dropping short to collect the ball.

They're all we've got unfortunately so Joe needs to find a system to suit the players that we have. All kids are taught to play the simple ball so why can't these adults do it?
We have not had the presence up front to play hoofball so why has Joe tried to play a system to suit himself not a system to suit the players that we have.
Joe is a footballing relic unable to adapt. I think its obvious to most of us that we need a new manager. one with new ideas that can get us playing football again. Yes Joe has had success in the past but the past few seasons have proved that he isn't up to the task.
With the talent that the acedemy has produced we should be able to prosper in this division if not the next so why do we struggle?

It could be that the Board are biding their time on Joe - in the knowledge that we simply cannot affotrd to pay him off, they have said get us up next year or on yer bike - which is fair enough , he's had his chance with us ....maybe the time has come for a change but sacking is not an option (nor the "Ipswich way").
I dont expect us to get promoted next season- so therefore I think it will be Joe's last season with us !!
