It was, started by Skuse's first touch pass. He had his best game since injury.

Re: NOW FOR PROMOTION
Im going to stick up for Kenlock on this one. He’s got to improve his defending and awareness, but due to the fact Judge isn’t really a left sided player( only on paper... he goes everywhere), Kenlock doesn’t get much help down the left side. Knudsen had more assistance usually from Sears tracking back, for example.... and still we leaked goals. And that Dozzell second goal was really started from Kenlock, where he twice passed the ball out from defence, whereby Knudsen would have wellied it up to no-one.Andym wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 1:18 pmI agree. And I think the whole style of play / player mentality needs to be looked at.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2019 9:00 amI see the suggested players to keep etc , but I think Lambert will be culling the squad even more than that. I’m sure I heard somewhere a squad size of around 20. Now we still need some defenders and strikers to come in so space has to be made for these newbies. So some players suggested to keep , I can see being released. We need fresh blood in to freshen squad up, and the strikers we have had haven’t been up to the task. No place for sympathy I’m afraid.
On the few occasions I've managed to watch Luton on tv this season, they have achieved success by going at teams. It's not uncommon for them to have had 20 or more shots in a game. Their mentality has been to put the emphasis on attack, and if they concede it doesn't matter because they'll score more than they let in. I think it will let them down next season - as I think Norwich will find it similarly difficult in the prem. Neither side is good enough at the back for their new division.
I was delighted with the performance and the result on Sunday. But watch the highlights and hopefully you'll see what I mean about the style of play / mentality of our team.
Our first goal came about because we had players in the box from a free kick and Downmes got on the end of a loose ball. This only happens for us from set plays. Compare that to Leeds' second goal. It came from open play and they got 5 players in the box. For their first goal, the ball went down the wing and 3 of their players burst into the box.
Look carefully at our second goal. A lovely move. But. Chalobah and Quaner are both involved in the build up. Both of them stop moving the moment they have delivered their final pass. Only Judge makes an effort to get in the box to folow up. This has been opur problem for many years; the midfield don't get up inot the box in support.
So yes, we need to trim the squad. But we need to change atttudes. And i know everyone hates Knudsen and he doesn't want to play for us, but look where the goals came from on Sunday. We need a left back as well as a right back.
I agree we have to change our mentality, but it might mean we have to have to have a bit of patience with some players who are more likely to make mistakes if they’re more positive and take risks.

I agree with a lot of what you say. Overall I thought Kenlock had a decent game. And he will improve hopefully. And he doesn't get much support. But he was at least partly responsible for both goals, and not for the first time. I just think sometimes there's a "He's one of our own" mentality that excuses poor play or substandard players. He (Kenlock) is probably a better passer of the ball and gets forward better than Knudsen. But if we are going to succeed next season, we have to have the midfield getting in the box in support of the striker(s), so I'd orefer a defender who can defend, and I believe Knudsen does that better than Kenlock.

Re: NOW FOR PROMOTION
There’s usually a ‘transfer rumour’ thread in pre-season.... would it be more suitable to have a ‘squad trimming’ thread?
Can’t help feel it’s going to be a 2 or 3 out... and 1 in sort of situation.

Re: NOW FOR PROMOTION
I would have thought it would be best to offload players like Ward, Gerken, Adeyemi without a thought.
Playing devils advocate, maybe the changing room atmosphere is healthy and full of decent blokes, but we still got severely f*cked over this season and maybe it was too chummy. Get some new faces in who aren’t either plagued by a doomed relegation season or spent too much time in the physio room. Gerken had the best opportunity at the club to take his chance against Bart and wasn’t up to it. Get rid. Whether they’re Championship quality or not, they need to add something rather than just fit in with Chambers or changing room harmony.

Congrats to Derrick in the Don Cup.... but could he be looking long-term for the longest running thread?derick_ipsw wrote: ↑Mon Nov 12, 2018 12:33 pmWho out of the current squad (Not loans)do you think would leave or be sold if we were relegated? For me it would be:
Bart
Knudson
Chambers
Ward
Dozzell
Huws
Adeyemi
Sears.
This started out as the Relegation thread, but Maybe in a years time this thread will have been re-named “ Champions” ... and then “ Double-promotion”. Keep it going.

Lee O'Neill: "Obviously there is an area for that market, you might be in a situation to look at a free transfer but the player will still demand wages and things like that."
Really? You don't say, Lee. "Wages and things like that!"
Might be free transfers but they ain't playing for free.

Re: NOW FOR PROMOTION
It would be a pleasant change if we get players in early as per O’Neill statement. Always think we’re usually a bit sluggish. I guess that depends on Evans’ negotiations..... like f**king around for weeks over Tilt last year which came to nothing.
Conversely, if players get sold - let’s hope it’s early, too.

"Fking around for weeks over Tilt"........ I thought that was a new expression. Ipswich fans waited for Fking weeks over tilt for the season to end!
Then remembered there was a player called Tilt.

Re: NOW FOR PROMOTION
I see that Sunderland are through to the PO final beating Pompey.
Must admit, if Sunderland don’t make it up this year, I can see them being bigger favourites to go up next year. If we are genuinely among the top sides next year - big if - then I’d prefer Sunderland to get promoted as one less big fish. TBH.... there seems to be a trend in the last few seasons of clubs coming down who are competitive at the top end of League 1. And less of clubs spiraling downwards ( Coventry, Pompey, Blackpool).
League 1 and their play-offs has suddenly become a bit more of an interest to me for some reason.
