Re: EURO 2020 / 2021 CHAT
Saw nothing of the game in question just got a news item that mentioned a Danish player had fallen on the field tonight. Says he's awake in a Copenhagen hospital, any condition has stabilized and hopefully a full recovery will ensue. Were it a coronary or something, they omitted to mention.
Not to trivialize the issue but what a score for Finland to win that game. Must be their first World /Euro competition can't recall them being involved before. These are the sort of scores that make things worthwhile, Iceland win over the English last time out, that nature of event.
Would not say No to another surprise winner like Greece in 2004, a team no-one gave a crap about before start of play but go on to stun everyone and take the prize. Picked Belgium to win it they got a 3 - 0 win this night and Russia are no lightweights. Still be pleased enough when the f**king thing's over with and out the way but you can still find items of interest among it.

Eriksen is a very lucky boy, thank god for the quick response of all concerned, most definitely saved his life. Sadly the implications may have ended his career but more importantly his family still have him

Decent enough start, good result. Excellent for opening 20 minutes, Calvin Phillips superb.

Really impressed by Phillips. Sterling constantly caused them problems and nice to see Tyrone Mings come in and not really put a foot wrong, even if much sterner tests could lie ahead. Mings (in the post-match interview) comes across as a really down to earth, humble individual who deserves to have been picked.

It's be quite a journey for Tyrone Mings. I believe MM signed him for around 10-thousand pounds from Chippenham Town, and then we sold him for around 8-million to Bournemouth. Of course now he's a regular starter for Aston Villa in the Premier League, and he appears to be a favourite of Southgates.

Re: EURO 2020 / 2021 CHAT
Totally agree. Croatia had very little up front, but as one of the pundits mentioned, we worked hard to keep their midfield stifled. Noticed how deep Modric was coming just to try to get things started, and for me he is a very dangerous player if you let him start running at you.

Re: EURO 2020 / 2021 CHAT
Got the win which was the most important thing. For me Phillips was definitely MOM and have to agree with others that Mings had his best game in a England shirt so far.
Not overly convinced about Tripper starting at left back and Walker struggled at times on the other side. IMO Kane is still dropping far too deep and on a few occasions players had space in front of them to bring the ball forward but either passed it sidewards or backwards. The other thing I would add is since when has Pickford joined the ITFC school of goalkeeping of when kicking the ball it goes straight out of play?
I saw nothing yesterday which made me think of changing my prediction of we most probably will win the group but then go out to either France, Germany or Portugal in the last 16.

Re: EURO 2020 / 2021 CHAT
Trippier was a strange pick, right footed player at left back ?.... I can only guess Southgate went with him for his experience and being very streetwise. I’ve not looked at the ratings but maybe we’ll see Luke Shaw come in for at least one of the next games, after all he’s had a very good season, talking of which I wonder when was the last time we had no player in the starting 11 from either Man U or Liverpool ?
Overall I think Southgate did a good job with his selections and tactics although I thought Croatia were pretty poor opponents, I just wish we’d create more opportunities given the pace and style of the likes of Mount & Foden etc. Hopefully Sterling’s goal will also be a confidence booster for a player who always seems to struggle in the big games.
I didn’t realise until yesterday that we’ve never won an opening game in the Euros before so maybe that’s a good omen. Would love to see them go all the way and win it on home soil.

Re: EURO 2020 / 2021 CHAT
Some things aren't to be, can't be done et cetera. (That is) Scotland to progress beyond Group Stage of any major competition. Not to say they won't this time but they've made it real hard for themselves after today. Hell I hope they beat the English next time up it would represent a great score but even now believe they've left themselves too much to do. Winning today was near imperative with other sides in that Group. sh*t happens I would have wanted them to do it and reach the second stages.
Frustrated with Spain only getting a point from today, took control from the start it reads and should have won it but no team has any divine right to win fixtures and Group Rounds. Have lost opening games or poor start in recent years but went on to be World Champions / Euro winners, hope for something similar this time around.

For one who said as recent as Saturday they weren’t interested in the Euro’s you seem to be very knowledgeable on what’s been happening every day. My guess is you’ve watched more of this than the rest of us put together.
From a personal perspective I tuned into the second half of Spain v Sweden this evening to follow my adopted homeland and was very disappointed with their lack of ideas on how to break down a stubborn Swedish defence. They’re certainly going to need to up their game if they have any ambition to reach at least the Semi’s.

Could have been 3-0 to the French! France look very strong, and a certain finalist in my opinion.
Hungary v Portugal 0-0 until the 85th minute.

Can someone explain why offside calls are not flagged immediately? I don’t understand why the officials wait now.

Re: EURO 2020 / 2021 CHAT
As far as I know If a goalscoring opportunity is likely to occur, the assistant referee will keep their flag down if they think there is an offside until the passage of play is completed.
Once a goal is scored or the chance is gone, the assistant will then raise the flag to indicate the initial offence. If a goal is scored, VAR will review the offside call.
IMO the problem with this is an assistant referee may be absolutely certain a player is offside but the play continues and the player concerned could end up getting injured during this passage of play.

Re: EURO 2020 / 2021 CHAT
At the Croatia game last Sunday I didn’t start celebrating the goal in case VAR cancelled it out.
Never forget the Nations League semifinal against the Netherlands in Portugal when lingard scored near the end of the 90 minutes and we were all going mental and then VAR decided he was offside by toenail.

I still think the flag should go up immediately. VAR has it's positives, but unfortunately it's made the offside rule far too technical resulting in decisions based on millimeters.

That was some assist from Bale for Wales and a perfectly timed run from Ramsey.

Bale penalty miss...dear oh dear. If you want to see how a penalty is taken, just look at Ronaldo's from yesterday.
