Seems pretty certain. I don’t think EADT would release this unless it’s a cert.
I know sweet fa about him, but he can score goals and had a quick look at MK Dons forum and they’re unhappy to lose him. Makes a change to getting players who their old fans would happily drive him to us.
Does make you wonder if he’s the next one in line after Crooks. That was dragging on.

According to Stuart Watson this signing hasn’t ended our interest in Crooks.tangfastic wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 7:47 pmSeems pretty certain. I don’t think EADT would release this unless it’s a cert.

I think the quality of the players Town are signing is better than I expected I thought we would be getting out of contract players to try and get promoted but I think that's now 4 that we have paid transfer fees for out of the eight and IMO these are players that all being well will establish us as a Championship team, of course not all will be successful.
I'm also liking the way the last two players have been announced, from nothing to closing in 30 minutes later we see them in a Town shirt it's better than it going on for weeks then the disappointment of them signing for someone else.
I also was pleased we got Pigott rather than Charlie Wyke who just might be a one season wonder hopefully I'm right.

I agree, I think we are bringing in the right kind of players. Players that clubs don’t want to lose and that have interest from Championship sides.Kerry Blue wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 5:42 amI think the quality of the players Town are signing is better than I expected I thought we would be getting out of contract players to try and get promoted but I think that's now 4 that we have paid transfer fees for out of the eight and IMO these are players that all being well will establish us as a Championship team, of course not all will be successful.

The only one I have doubts about is Penney, but I see him as a free-transfer punt for a young player who is more likely to be seen as a useful squad player with potential.
Not sure where we stand with Crooks and Celina. These are high-profile potentially big marquee signings, but I do wonder if Ashton is using these as a bit of a smokescreen. All talk about these two, yet Pigott and Fraser come completely under the radar and get announced without any rumours flying around. Pretty slick.
A few more needed, but, for me, the biggest priority is an experienced, good quality CB. Whatever happens with Crooks/Celina, the one glaring requirement is a decent CB.

Looks like Bishop is off to MK DONS. Good move for him.

Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop’s move to the MK Dons is reportedly finally set to be confirmed.
TWTD revealed that the 25-year-old’s switch to MK was well progressed almost a month ago but with the deal still to be formalised.
However, according to Football Insider, the Town academy product is now poised to join the League One side.
It had been reported that the Dons needed to sell before they could complete the move with Town having signed midfielder Scott Fraser from them yesterday.
Speaking on Tuesday, manager Russell Martin said he hoped to gmake another addition by the end of the week but dismissed the suggestion that that was dependent on Fraser’s sale, which was completed last night.
"We're hoping to have another one done by the end of the week but I don't want to put a timeline on it,” he told the MK Citizen.
“There are three or four we want to bring in still, but when you're looking at good players, there are always others looking. We hope to get things done as soon as possible.
"These deals won't rely on selling Scott. We're working within a budget, which is smaller because of Covid, but we know what we're working with.
“We have a lot of people who want to come and play for us. It's not reliant on selling Scott. If he goes for a significant amount, hopefully we'll see a bit of that.”
As reported early in the summer, Bishop’s hometown club Cambridge United showed interest, while Portsmouth, Lincoln and Hearts were more recently linked, although the claims regarding the Scottish Premiership side were subsequently dismissed.
Bishop has been training with the U23s this summer having been told he can move on. He played what's likely to be his final game in a Town shirt at Bury Town on Tuesday.
In total, Bishop made 81 starts and 51 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring five times.

Good for us too. Will have recouped some of the fee paid for Fraser, probably taking the net into the low 000,000s

Exactly Dubai, a good move for us too, while I didn't mind a fit Teddy Bishop at all he was never fit for long, we have deffo got the better deal here for sure, someone who creates and scores compared to someone who doesn't, a no brainer.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Yes totally agree. We often used to look towards Bishop for our creative spark, but certainly not his goals. Was surprised to see he played 38 games last season. Let's hope he can do a McGoldrick and stay fairly injury free once he leaves, as it must have been frustrating for him (and us as fans, not knowing when the next injury would occur).
I liked Bishop so certainly do not wish to appear to be knocking him, though we do appear to have got an upgrade with Fraser.

At this moment in time, definitely an upgrade based on the last 2-3 seasons where Fraser reputedly was a top player for Burton/MK Dons.
Can we really guarantee Bishop would be not only fit but could consistently perform? When he was fit, you couldn’t count on him to do it on a consistent basis. Take away his ability to beat players, and he wasn’t that great a passer, barely scored and couldn’t tackle. Could be a good move for all parties.

Just read that 9 of Fraser's 14 goals were penalties!! Waste of money, send him back !!

They all count. I bet Norwood will still try and take the ball of Fraser (or Pigott) if we get a penalty.
By all accounts, Norwood insisted on taking a free-kick at Dover where Evans is apparently a free-kick specialist.

I don't think Norwood will be on the pitch tbh, he'll be driving the Beer float.

Certainly going to competition for places up front. If Norwood thinks he’s top dog and thinks he’s an automatic pick, he’s mistaken. He’s going to have to fight for a place.

That could bring out the best in him, I hope so cus a Norwood at his best is a real asset.tangfastic wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 11:01 amCertainly going to competition for places up front. Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Ipswich Town face increasing competition for Rotherham’s Matt Crooks, with a second Championship club said to have entered the bidding war.
The attacking midfielder has been a prime transfer target for the Blues this summer, who have lodged a series of bids and maintain a serious interest despite already adding MK Dons’ creator Scott Fraser to the squad yesterday.
The Rotherham Advertiser report an unnamed Championship side to have made an offer of £750,000, rising to £1.25million for the 27-year-old, with another second-tier side already offering a high six-figure fee for the midfielder.
Derby, Middlesbrough, Cardiff and Peterborough are all thought to be keen on signing Crooks, with Rotherham boss Paul Warne again insisting the player deserves a move to the Championship and that the Millers don’t want to sell to a League One rival.
“I spoke to the Ipswich manager (Paul Cook) last week,” Warne told the Advertiser.
“He candidly asked ‘What did I think?’, I candidly told him what I thought and they haven’t offered again.
“It is not something we’re looking to do, to lose our best assets to our competitors. “I think, in fairness to the player and with no disrespect to Ipswich, if he was to leave here he would want Championship football. That’s what his ability deserves really.”

I honestly think we've moved on and signed Fraser instead of Crooks which is fine by me tbh, warne is trying to play games and push the price up, thankfully our guys have numerous, equally as good targets, this one won't happen.

Looks to me that this isn't going to happen unless the Champ suitors drop out. Move on.
Of course if we actually got £8m for Downes then I guess we could up the ante a bit

If Crooks does go to a championship club that would be good for us, well for one season hopefully.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
If we have given up on Crooks, I’ve got no problem if we keep up the illusion of still wanting him. It might allow us to negotiate quietly elsewhere for others with the focus still on him.
If he’s still there at Rotherham in a few weeks time, it might be we revisit. I can’t see Rotherham letting him go into his last season with them. If Rotherham believes he will leave, they’ll also want to get the cash and start looking for a replacement. I just don’t want to p*ss around too long with him when we could pick up the next taxi on the rank. With Fraser, we’ve possibly done that already.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
I still think there might be some legs in this Crooks bid. I note Warne has also said that he would like to have 3 or 4 players in by the end of next week but it is dependent on 1 or 2 players leaving the club.
Warne does seem to like to run his mouth off a bit concerning us, have seen it mentioned that he is a fan of that lot up the A140. I would love to see Crooks end up here but certainly wouldn’t want us paying over the odds for him like we did for David Norris. With our current setup I’m sure that won’t happen.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
I think it would be far more important for us to sign a couple of experienced centre backs than another midfielder. Going into the season with just Toto & Wolfie would be squeaky bum time every time a ball was played into our box.
