Hi John,
I am taking the family on holiday this week up to Rarotonga where the internet has about the same effectiveness as post.
Will attempt to make my pick at the end of the week (for what it's worth ), failing that can you please put 5 EW on the 4th favourite for me?
cheers Dave

I could tell you a quite incredible and very true story about Dumbiedykes, Wolfie.
And did you know the area is a literal stones throw by a professional stone thrower from Holyrood Palace.

Re: WK 12, THE CURRAGH. IRISH OAKS
Itching to tell you the Dumbiedykes story……. The memory has been in my head since you mentioned the place.
Try make this brief. As said, Dumbiedykes is close to Holyrood Palace, BUT, the place is an absolute shitehole. Horrible flats and a real drug problem. Certainly not what you’d expect in the Palace vicinity.
The gas board had “one day heating” contracts all over but you couldnt pick or choose the good ones in the good areas…… you had to start out doing these contracts in the poorer areas. When we started the contracts around 96/97, Dumbiedykes was a big contract. At the time it was only myself and buddy Paul Brown (RIP, brain tumour)
We were discussing stuff with the guys in charge, things like insurance, van insurance in case the vans were screwed etc.
One week before the contract started, someone was murdered in Dumbiedykes. We were like, “Come on guys? Whats going on? We cant concentrate on gas installations when folk are being murdered and vans are being broken into.”
We had a meeting, guy called Ian Davies (who made the mistake of telling people he drove a kids train at weekends……, he was The Fat Controller after that) ….. Ian assured us all that we’d be at the High street side of Dumbiedykes for the entire contract, the “nice side”.
Morning of the contract….. we were on a 2nd floor flat. Walking up the stairs on arriving we passed the first floor flat door which had a mountain of flowers and condolences cards outside it.
Paul was like, “Thats where the guy was murdered! FFS! Is that Fat Controller b*stard taking the p*ss?! Am no working where folk are being murdered, fk this sh*t!” And he walked off. I had no choice but to go as well as they were one day installs. Couldnt do that myself.
To this day, no idea at all if Ian had planned that job for us.
“Give them the job near the killers!”

Sounds like a nice quiet area, . and that Ian Davies had a wicked sense of humour
We had a pub in this nice little village on the outskirts of the City
in around 2/3 years we had 4 customers murdered, 3 by customers , another by an unknown.
Another was shot who survived , and another who shot himself dead after murdering one of the 4.

Re: WK 12, NEWBURY PARK,
That's a better race Wolfie just hope the others agree, with the other one a non runner would mean the stake goes on a odds on chance which is not worth doing.
