Just watched the highlights- Chaplin had a good game by the looks of it.
I think we’ll get there this season. Given this is our second string, we’ve got real strength in depth when injuries start to pile up for other sides in this division

We have still got a game Saturday against Shrewsbury, one of few taking place in League 1 though.saint jude wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 11:33 pm
Got to say disappointed we won't be involved in action at the weekend due to international

Good to win and the performance was pretty decent. Hard to know how significant it is against a Gillingham side who made 9 changes. We know we’ve got a strong squad, but it’s all about our first eleven.
Like to see Pigott and Chaplin given a go in the first team, but where do you play them? If Cook doesn’t want to go for two up top, i think Pigott could play the number 10 role. Great ball for Chaplin for our second goal.
El Mizouni did himself a lot of favours. I think he could be pushing Evans and Carroll to play alongside Morsy. Seems to have a bit more bite about him this season.
I did think some players over-did it at times. Maybe trying to impress too much.

The highlights although brief had flashes of good play, nice to see Pigott and Chaplin getting on the scoresheet also seeing some of the 'cold' squad get a run out and doing ok to be fair.
Nice win and lets get going!

Definitely great seeing Pigott on the score sheet. MacBonne has really made that job his so far this season but for Pigott to get this one chance, and score, that is

We just need these guys having good performances in League games not the Micky Mouse Cup. Maybe the pressure from the fans is getting to them a bit.

Spent the tenner and state up till midnight to watch this and glad I did as it was a pretty entertaining game. Also I thought we performed well as a team with some nicely developing partnerships all over the pitch.
Standouts: El Mizouni grew into the game very nicely and looks composed, Chaplin and Pigott both had great finishes. Jackson did well. Toto was strong as usual. Norwood was a handful at the end.
Most of these players could drop into the first XI with little problem based on last night's performance against an admittedly underwhelming Gillingham, especially once their substitutions were made.

Would it be feasible to play the same squad as last night for the next league contest against Shrewsbury. I know many doubt Holy's abilities but he needs or can use further league action and seems the team put out yesterday presented themselves very well and played with a clear togetherness.

As Tangfastic says, Saint…… Gillingham made 9 changes. I’d say no. Mix up the formation with the team that played v Accrington….. tinker and get that correct.
And dropping Hanky wouldn’t be advised.
And sending Tamas Holy out on loan to the Lapland 5th division club, Elves United would be advised. They're on record as wanting a taller keeper. (Its a decent record….. sounds like The Smurfs)

With all respect you’d imagine if we had played the XI that played Doncaster and Accrington they’d have won 4-0 last night.saint jude wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 2:10 pmWould it be feasible to play the same squad as last night for the next league contest against Shrewsbury. No offence, Saint, but there’s no need to replace a first eleven with a second eleven. Especially when you compare a nothing competition to league games when we’re playing their weakened sides.
Just tweak it a bit ….. and maybe players like Pigott, Chaplin and El Mizouni can use these games to push themselves into the first eleven. I thought it was a decent game whee players wanted to push their cause.
I’m not really bothered about this competition but if it gives fringe players an opportunity to get in the starting line-up .

Waste o time, Tangfastic……. turned 52 this week, the rigidity of the pipe is coming under review, (no pun intended)
