Billy Sharp,What a player and career, Town could do worse signing him Mike.

I remember MM tried to sign him from Scunthorpe back in 2007, we got his striking partner Andy Keogh but they wouldn't sell him,
Would have been a legend with us I'm sure, Steve Bull Mk 2.

Sharp was superb at this level, but surely too old now and doesn’t suit our system at all? Great bench option for late in games when you need a goal maybe, but would be a surprise move.

yeah your correct with all that shabba , as you say great for last 10 mins of a game now, also not just playing but what an inspiring person for the kids to train with and learn from.

I’ve always been a great admirer of Billy Sharp and would have loved him to have had a spell at Portman Road but I think we simply missed the boat. For me at 37 he’s too old to invest in at Championship level. Last season maybe but not now.

We're not the big fish in the small pond anymore, we're surrounded by teams with similar pulling power now and considering only very good players will improve our team and be worth the risk, such available players are naturally going to draw a lot of interest from others. It could be a tricky window and it could be a late flurry of transfers only once teams have instigated bidding wars to bloat transfer fees and lined up their own replacements before letting players go.
This season I'm wondering if we might do well with loanees, given McKenna's coaching pedigree and the clubs current stability and upward trajectory we're surely quite an attractive proposition for promising premiership youngsters.

Thought he was going to Rotherham now Andy. He’s never really moved far from the steel valley has he. So doubt he will now…

To honest Liz although he’s played for many clubs Sheffield United his home town is the only place where he’s settled.

Al his other clubs have been relatively short stays apart from when he was up the road at Leeds United for 5 seasons before heading home to The Blades.

His only other excursion away from his homeland for more than a season was at Southampton where he had very little game time and spent most of it out on loan at Nottingham Forest just an hour down the road from Sheffield.

At 37 I can’t for one minute imagine him wanting to be far away from his comfort zone.

Yates going to Swansea, that's another off the list.

I think that is a really good point you have. I know loan players count towards the 25, however if they're a really promising youngster under 21, then surely they do not count? I don't have any names to offer, but surely there'll be someone out there who could fit that bill?
Alternatively a really good quality player on a season long loan might also help us stay within the financial boundaries (as opposed to forking out for and paying the entire wage of).

I must admit I'm hoping we don't go too heavily into the Loan route, I don't mind the odd One or Two provided they are season long loans with no recall, anything else just causes potential problems.

Either way we are having to wait for the PL clubs to finalise their final declared squads aren’t we.

This will go down to potentially the last week b4 ko or even after ko…. Then we’ll see how good our squad is in the interim won’t we.

As good as we are we definitely need strengthening in One or Two areas.

At least we are starting from a good point, i,e a half decent squad with depth in most areas (CB and CF are the issue) so can begin the season, I suspect many cubs aren't yet at that stage. (I'm sure Stoke fans said they have about 8 senior players!). Plus the squad we have are bonded and settled.

We aren't desperate, so can take our time and be patient in order to hopefully get the right additions. We still at present have, if anything, too many players.

I'm sure we will make 3 or so additions and clear out a few before the window shuts.

Re loans, happy for RW to cover/compete with Burns, i.e Rak Saki from Palace would be ideal. Wouldn't be against a decent striker loan if it came to it, I know we missed out on Brighton's Ferguson just before he broke into their side - and he looks some player already.

I do hope the CB we bring in is more experienced though, otherwise its a very young back line.

Regarding Hirst in light of Simms over evaluation, how much would Leicester be willing to take for Hirst? If he’s available.

My #NeverWrong sources are telling me George Hirst is going back to Ipswich Town on a permanent move following from his loan season. Fee around £4M

4m is steep but likely about right, wouldn’t want to pay more but likely not many other options. Wouldn’t mind us taking punts on players from abroad if they are alot cheaper but we need a decent number 9 and Hirst can be that.

We’re mixing it with the big boys now so upwards of £4m I’d think … which for a striker I suppose isn’t too bad !

I think 4-mil for Hirst is fair in today’s market. I hope it’s true. He must have a connection after those end of season celebrations, and he’s still young.
